Sunday Obituary - Gerhard Leither


GERHARD LEITHER, 80
JACOBS PRAIRIE
OCT. 31, 1918-NOV. 10, 1998

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. James Catholic Church for Gerhard Leither, 80, who died Tuesday at Assumption Nursing Home, Cold Spring.

Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at Wenner Funeral Home, Cold Spring, with Catholic Aid and Men's Society praying the rosary at 7 followed by parish prayers at 8.

Gerhard Leither was born in Jacobs Prairie to Peter and Susan (Rausch) Leither. He married Viola Theisen on Aug. 26, 1943, in Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Rockville. He farmed 1-1/2 miles north of Jacobs Prairie until his retirement in 1976.  He also worked several years after that at Cold Spring Wood Products.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Jacobs Prairie, Catholic Aid and Jacobs Prairie Men's Society.

Survivors include sons, Peter of St. Cloud, Richard of Rockville, and Mark of  St. Joseph; and brothers and sisters, Clarence of Cold Spring, Leandar of Sauk Rapids, Eleanor of Waite Park, and Bernadette Dullinger of Opole; three grandchildren; and one great-grand-daughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, March 24, 1996; and sisters and brothers, Lorraine Neu, Delores Kraemer, Edmond, Roman, Alvin and Norbert.


Gerhard Leither was my wife's Godfather.  I was privileged to meet the man once, at her high school graduation party.
